The ASP Triad DF Flashlight | Light Up Your Life

One of the newest additions to the Crate Club is the presence of the Asp Triad DF. Tactical flashlight is a rather generic term and often is tossed around a bit too much. Just because a flashlight has a rugged bevel and a metal body doesn't mean its tactical. Tactical is a term that should be applied to flashlights that meet a specific set of requirements. Today I’m going to talk about those requirements and why the ASP Triad DF is a solid tactical light.

Tactical Light Requirements

A tactical light does need to be strong and durable, and this often means the body needs to made from metal. It has to be able to survive drops, falls, and needs to be strong enough to bash someone in their stupid face should it be necessary. This is also where a somewhat scalloped bevel comes in handy too. The Asp Triad DF is made from 6061 T6 aerospace grade aluminum and does have a type 3 hard coat anodized finish.

Strength against falls is one thing, but it also needs to be water resistant. Tactical environments can be anywhere. It could be in the streets during a beautiful fall day, or it could be in the middle of a rainstorm in the back of crack head alley. Either way, you need your light to work. The Asp Triad DF is o-ring sealed for maximum water and debris resistance.

The ASP Triad DF Flashlight Next, it needs to be bright, but not too bright. Sounds like a fun requirement right? Well, a tactical flashlight needs to be used indoors and outdoors. Indoors use is best served with that less bright function due to reflections off mirrors, stainless areas, and even white walls. When it comes to outdoor use, you want more power to see further and light up those non-reflective surfaces.

The Asp Triad DF has 550 lumens, and that walks the line between both too bright and not bright enough. It casts a beam 219 meters and its wide enough to completely fill your vision. This includes your proprietary vision.

Keep it Stupid Simple with the Asp Triad DF

It also needs to be easy to use. When your blood is flowing, and your heart is racing the last thing you want to do is fight with your flashlight. You need something that works and works quickly. The simpler, the better. The Asp Triad DF is a straightforward light. It has one control and three settings.

The control is a button and a turning switch. The turning switch changes the modes of the light. The button then activates the light. The ring produces both an audible and a tactile feeling, so you know you've turned it to the next position. The three modes going from left to right on the selection wheel is as follows, momentary, constant off, and constant off. It is that simple.

The light is also small and compact. It’s only 6.25 inches long and 1.4 inches in diameter. The Asp Triad DF weighs just 6.72 ounces. The grip is coated in a weatherproof foamed vinyl grip for comfort and easy to use.

Versatility and Adaptability

Lastly, we are going to get to the DF in the Asp Triad DF. DF stands for Duel Fuel. In the field, you may never know how long you will be powering through with your flashlight. The Duel Fuel is designed to make life easier in every way possible. It can use either a 18650 rechargeable battery or 2 CR123A batteries.

The runtime is 3 hours and charging the rechargeable portion is very simple. The Asp Triad DF we included in Crate Club comes with the Asp charge kit. Recharging the light requires the standard Mini USB charger you'll find with most cell phones. The Recharging kit comes with a charging cable, as well as a wall mount and a car charger. This makes it convenient to recharge the light in almost any situation. Packing the recharge kit, and 4 CR123A batteries will give you practically all night performance.

The ASP Triad DF Flashlight

The Asp Triad DF is a tactical flashlight and fulfills the requirement well. It's great for EDC, for Duty, and for lighting up your life. Stay tuned for another article where we’ll be looking at using the Asp Triad DF with a handgun and the techniques required to effectively use a pistol and flashlight.
